The annual Niles North Blood Drive will be held in the Student Commons, periods 1-9, for LifeSource. The host of the event, Student Government, have already beaten their record of last year by having 140 people sign up for the blood drive this year.

On Thursday, Feb. 13, students who have volunteered, and have turned in the parent consent form, must come to the Student Commons during their assigned period.

It is recommended that if you are donating blood on Thursday that you drink a lot of liquids (at least 16 oz more than you normally drink), maintain a healthy iron level by eating iron rich foods (such as iron fortified cereal, red meat, fish, beans, and spinach), and get a good night’s sleep (donating blood will make you tired).

Student Government and LifeSource ask that you wear a t-shirt or a shirt that can be raised above the elbow and relax during the procedure (read a book or listen to music) to make sure your procedure flow smoothly.
After donating, it is recommended that you drink fluids and eat a snack after donating and drink at least 32 oz of fluids over the next 24 hours. If your feel any dizziness or feel lightheaded, stop what you’re doing and relax and make sure you rest and sleep for at least 24 hours.
Thank you to all the students signed up for Thursday’s donation. You will be saving three lives.
