During the May 5th monthly Board of Education meeting, Superintendent Thomas Moore announced his retirement, marking the end of his tenure with the district in Feb. 2027. Moore was hired in 2022 on a three-year contract.
As superintendent, Moore introduced free Advanced Placement (AP) testing, an ongoing strategic plan of the district, along with demonstrating high advocacy in education for the Latino community.
“It’s been a wonderful experience and the decision to come here has been the best decision I’ve made in my career,” Moore said. “Just in terms to get the opportunity to reinvent yourself to test theories that you’ve had you get the opportunity to fix the things, where you didn’t like how you did things, and you get to meet people and gosh the people here, the kids here have just been incredible to get to know and work with.”
After Feb. 2027, D219’s deputy superintendent, Dr. Roszena Haskins will take his place as the next superintendent of D219. Dr. Haskins has been in the district since 2023 providing leadership, oversight, and support for the district.
“I’m excited for things to come,” Dr. Haskins said. “We’ve got the plan, we’ve got the talent, we’ve got the resources, we’ve got amazing kids, and so we’re ready, let’s go. Thank you, I am honored truly.”
The change in superintendent marks a transition for the district. As leadership shifts, the focus remains of maintaining stability while continuing to support students, staff, and ongoing goals
“I could not be more excited for all of you who bring clarity, integrity, and a deep sense of purpose to this work,” Moore said. “I know that D219 is in the best possible hands, the future is bright.”
