As fall sport season continues and the first football game approaches, the time has come once again for the Niles North Competitive Dance team to begin.
The team performs at football games, basketball games, events such as the homecoming assembly, and more. For individuals who love to dance and have tons of spirit, this team is ideal.
With tryouts approaching, veteran dancer Maika Larracas said, “I have a really good feeling about this season because this year, we’re changing our reputation and making it more positive. We’ve also barely started season and we have gotten so much work done already.”
To audition, no experience is needed, however it certainly does not hurt to have prior dancing knowledge. Practice for the tryouts are done at the clinics taking place on Aug. 24, 25, and 26 at 3:45 p.m. in the dance studio, where short routines can be learned as well as general preparation of tricks and turns.
Tryouts are Aug. 27 at 4 p.m. in the west cafe. A routine with music will be performed for the judges. As far as attire goes, those planning on auditioning should wear black dance pants or athletic shorts, a solid black tank top or shirt, and jazz or gym shoes. Hair should be tied up and no jewelry is allowed.
“We all learned and improved a lot since the first time we joined; you can’t expect to join the team being a perfect dancer but you can expect to come out being a great one,” said junior Mika Mendoza, a third year dancer.
