Niles North is going under new additions and revamps around every corner. While students were vacationing and teachers were snoozing, the building has been under construction including a new courtyard, updated lunchroom, new exercise equipment and even new doors.
Door 16 is surrounded by elegant glass windows and upon existing, the outside is shielded with a wooden canopy shade. In addition, the cafeteria has new lunch tables and lighting, giving students more advantages. Teachers have their own lounge giving them their own lunch room and privacy. The best part is the new court yard, which is set with two baige brick walls on each side and filled with plenty of green trees.
“I had to come into the school during the summer for a camp and there was still a ton of construction, even when I picked up my books but on the first day of school everything was finished and looked pretty cool,” said senior Lannie Hernandez.
“I like the new lunchroom, all the new tables are nice and the setup makes getting lunch faster.” said senior Isbah Ali. “The school is also doing construction on the pools again which I’m excited about going into my last season of swimming.”
While almost everyone is pleased with all the new extensions, some students have suggestions of their own for improvements. “I think the school should get new lockers or maybe paint the hallways and some of the older classrooms.” Ysabel Gonzaga, junior, tells us. “Also the field houses could be re-done to have air conditioning.”
While starting school again seems to be the hardest thing to do for students, the new areas and updates appear to reinvigorate us all and give students a push to get back into the swing of things.
