This year, Dance Marathon will be sponsoring its 2nd annual 5k run on Sunday, Nov. 10. The run will take place in Harms Woods in Skokie, which is located on the corner of Golf Road and Harms Road. Registration begins at 8:00 a.m. and the run will begin at 9:00 a.m.
This popular event was introduced to District 219 for the first time last year. It was extremely successful, with more than 150 people showing up. Not only did Niles North and Niles West students participate, but many people from the community also came out to run in the race.
Senior Ramon Sebastian, who ran the race last year, said, “I woke up that morning knowing that I would be making a difference in the lives of children in need.”
The primary beneficiary for Dance Marathon this year is Child Restoration Outreach Support Organization (CROSO), a charity that offers Ugandan street children the opportunity for a college education. All proceeds from the 5k run will be going towards CROSO.
Dance Marathon sponsor Tina Helms said, “Last year, the 5k was a success because it was a new event that gave everyone an opportunity to come together at one time before Dance Marathon to support a cause and each other.”
The cost is $20 for an individual runner, but $15 if running in a group of 4 or more if the participants register and pay in advance. To register on the day of, the cost is $25 for an individual runner and $20 per person in a group of 4 or more. Participants also receive a free CROSO t-shirt on the day of the race.
