Calliope, the art and literary magazine published by the students of Niles North, has released its long awaited 2013 edition, Contradictions. This year’s issue includes a wide variety of artistic photos, drawings and written works from 54 student contributors.
The faculty advisor and technical advisors for Calliope are English teachers Charles Pratt and Ivan Silverberg, respectively. Pratt is retiring this year, after advising nine issues of the magazine.
Calliope’s senior editor in chief, Rupal Desai, has been on the staff for four years. The 2012-21013 editorial staff included associate editor Michelle Jacob and assistant editors Basil Alias and Michelle Lin, all seniors. Staff members included juniors Jonathan Marks and Sara Morrison, sophomores Leontyne Wan and Scott Hirsch and freshmen Emily Roman, Hannah Kamm and Fionn Reid. Junior Lianne Coballes served as art consultant.
“I saw signs in the library advertising Calliope, and so I submitted my story ‘The Woman Waiting’,” contributor sophomore Kate Andrew says. It feels great to have my story published. I really like the idea of being able to share my work.”
Print copies of this year’s issue are available for $3 in room 1015, or from English teachers Barbara Hoff and Charles Pratt. Don’t miss out on your chance to see all the works of art and literature contributed by your talented contributors.
