Are you an aspiring artist, poet, or photographer with art just sitting around? Calliope, named after the Greek muse of epic poetry, is the art and literary magazine published by the students of Niles North.
Submissions are accepted through the month of February and can include original pieces of art, photography, prose and poetry.
Submission boxes are located in The Point and the IRC. Art and English teachers can also forward submissions to the staff. To contact the Calliope staff with submissions or questions, you can send an email to [email protected] or to [email protected].
“Calliope is special because it allows students to show off their creative side without being judged,” editor in chief senior Rupal Desai says. “The staff has an open mind and will accept writing and artwork that has time and thought put into it.”
The staff includes associate editor senior Michelle Jacob, assistant editors seniors Basil Alias and Michelle Lin and staff members junior Jonathan Marks, junior Sara Morrison, sophomores Leontyne Wan and Scott Hirsch and freshman Emily Roman.
The faculty advisor and technical advisors for Calliope are English teachers Charles Pratt and Ivan Silverberg, respectively.
“It was a great surprise when I saw my work in the magazine. I really enjoyed looking through it and seeing all the different art that my classmates made,” Junior Emma Eschker, who had her photography published in last year’s edition of Calliope, says.
Once again, submissions are accepted through the month of February. Calliope offers such a unique opportunity for Niles North students to have their work published and admired. Whether its poetry or a hand-drawn picture, Calliope is a representation of all the remarkable talents Niles North students have.
