Are you an old school Pokemon player? Did you spend hours catching your favorite Pokemon? It’s about time that Pokemon comes to the real-world. Nintendo will be releasing Pokémon GO, a mobile app that you can download to your Android or iPhone, but play in the real world through augmented reality.
In Pokémon GO the aim is to locate, catch, battle and trade Pokémon, and you are encouraged to connect with other nearby Pokémon GO players.
“I think it’s cool that when I am at lunch I can play with my friends and have epic battles,” sophomore Kate Aanerude said.
Along with the release of Pokemon GO, Nintendo is also selling the Pokemon GO plus. Pokémon GO Plus lets you play Pokémon GO without looking at your phone by delivering haptic feedback and flashing LEDs in a series of colors. It encourages players to look not only at their phones and Pokémon GO, but to experience what’s going on around them in the real world. Once your device connects via Bluetooth to your phone, the magic begins.
“I’m really excited for the release of Pokemon GO because it’s literally Pokemon in real life. I have always dreamed one day Pokemon would come in real life and now my wish has been answered. I can’t wait ’til the release,” senior Justin Im said.
With Pokemon X and Y released in 2014, players got a taste of something new with 3-D affects and now they can experience it live in this augmented reality. The 2014 games brought back older users and along with a new generation of trainers and this will unite smartphone users with gamers.
“It’s so epic that I can “catch” a Pokemon while I’m in school,” sophomore Ally General said.
Pokémon GO will be free to download from the Google Play Store for Android and the App Store for iPhone, but there will also be in-app purchases available within the game. For now, no exact release date is known for Pokémon GO, other than it will launch sometime in 2016.
