The three years old Niles North Engineering Club is taking robotics around the country to compete against the best robotics teams across the globe.
They have been competing all over Illinois as well as out of state in some very incredible tournaments. So far, engineering club has won its regional tournament in Rolling Meadows and Batavia. Just recently it went to Omaha, Nebraska to compete and win 8th at the National level. Even though those young engineers didn’t place first, the club is headed for Worlds in Anaheim, California to compete on an international level.
Engineering Club meets every Wednesday in the engineering room, 1620, to brainstorm ideas for future robots or just ways to improve current models. All ideas have the opportunity to be applied to something. The club sponsor, Robb Barton, helps all the students out by showing them how to fix or improve their designs so that they can make the best use out of their ideas.
Just recently the Club was showcased on WGN9 news for their work and given a huge boost in popularity and visibility in the community. Link to the video is here: http://wgntv.com/2014/04/10/suburban-high-schoolers-heading-to-world-championship-robotic-competition/
Let’s all cheer for the Niles North Engineering Club this year when they are sent off to California to compete in the Worlds tournament, and give them the viking strength they need to win!
