What is your name and grade level? My name is Leyka Soni, and I am a sophomore.
What activities are you involved in? Through school, I’m a part of the Auroris Dance Company, North Nachle, HOSA, and SASA. Outside of school, I’m on a competitive dance team.
What is your favorite part of dancing? My favorite part of dancing is the community and my teammates, getting to work hard at something together and support each other in every way.
What is a lesson you’ve learned from dancing for so long? I think dance has taught me to be resilient and to push myself through hard days because it will eventually pay off. The supportive community around it all helps so much, too, because everyone is in it together.
Who sparked your interest in dance? As a kid, my older cousin was a part of a competition team, and that inspired me to later join one myself. As soon as I joined that, I became really committed to the sport. She has always been someone I looked up to and continue to today.
What is one of your unpopular opinions? My unpopular opinion is that chocolate doesn’t taste good. I definitely don’t like it.
What is your favorite place you’ve traveled to? My favorite place I’ve traveled to is Croatia. I went this past summer, and it was so pretty.
What is one of your weird talents? Not sure if this is really a talent, but I can do a slickback in under two minutes.
If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why? If I could have any superpower, it would be teleportation because it would give me the ability to travel quickly and see more of the world.
What is one of your biggest pet peeves? My biggest pet peeve is definitely slow walkers.
If you could eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be and why? If I could only eat one food for the rest of my life, I’d pick a Chipotle bowl. It has a lot of variety, it’s really convenient, and you can eat it with chips or wrap it in a tortilla, so it never gets boring.
