What is your name and grade? My name is Ari Colish. I’m in 11th grade.
What is your least favorite food? I don’t like tomatoes, like, whole tomatoes. Diced tomatoes are fine, but whole tomatoes just gross me out, because of the juices squirting everywhere. Their taste—I just don’t like it, and the texture, as well.
Do you like calling or texting more, and why? I would say texting, only because sometimes you can’t be talking loudly in some spaces, but I do think calling is a little better sometimes in different situations. Like, sometimes through text, you can’t really fully understand somebody. But, overall, I like texting more.
Who is your all-time celebrity crush? I don’t have one. I actually don’t. I used to have a crush on Shakira when I was, like, five, but now she’s old as flip.
Who in your family are you closest with? My father, because growing up, he kind of had the same childhood as me, growing up playing sports. He can relate more than my mom can. And, more than my brother can, because my brother didn’t play sports, so he helps me with the recruiting part of the sports now.
What’s your greatest accomplishment in life? Making varsity baseball as a freshman; that’s one thing I’m really proud of. Growing up playing baseball, I’ve been playing since I was young, and I wouldn’t say I was the best kid, but I also wouldn’t say I was bad at it. And, I was very accomplished with my teams that we would be doing good. So, freshman year, leading up to tryouts, I had no clue that I would make it, but I made JV. And then, two days before the first game, they called me up to varsity, because I practiced with the varsity squad, and then I didn’t sit on the bench once. I was a starter the whole season, and up until the present.
Do you like to dance, and why or why not? No, I do not like to dance, mainly because I’m not a good dancer. Also, I don’t like public embarrassment, and I know if I tried to dance in front of people I’d be embarrassed. Even if I was good at it, I still would be. I don’t like the spotlight that much.
What do you think makes someone a good person? I think being a good person means to be respectful, have manners, and understand other people. It’s being sympathetic and not being judgmental. You can be a good person, but still judge people—I guess everyone judges—but you don’t have to go out and do something about it and say something and make them feel worse about themselves.
What is your go-to pick-up line? I don’t know. I have a girlfriend, but I didn’t use a pick-up line. I said: “When we hanging out?” I don’t use pick-up lines; I just get straight to the point.
What’s the most embarrassing thing that’s ever happened to you? In either sixth or seventh grade, I accidentally posted a thirst trap. I swear it was an accident. I got a new haircut—It was so bad—and I was just feeling myself. And then, I guess I accidentally pressed post, and then I put my phone down for 20 minutes, and the next time I checked my phone, it was blowing up. So many people texted me. And yeah, so, it just hasn’t been let down since. After it happened, I took it down ASAP, but, like, people just kept making fun of me. And then it got posted my freshman year on “Almost Fridays,” and that kept reminding me of that moment. It was pretty embarrassing, but it’s okay, because I don’t really care about it anymore. I’m a changed man.
What is your favorite sleeping position? I usually sleep on the right side of my bed, on my shoulder, like, turned over to the side. Or, sometimes, Starfish, but not my arms, just my legs. So, yeah, I rarely sleep on my back. It’s hard to get comfortable.
What’s your favorite song to sing in the shower? Can I say my favorite artist? I don’t really have a favorite song. But, Morgan Wallen. I don’t know why. I like the new album, I’m the Problem. I like singing that, but also just country in general. I don’t really like singing rap, mainly because I can’t follow along with it half the time, and a lot of times they’re not singing along to my values. Even though sometimes I like the beats of it, it’s just that they talk about some random things that don’t align with me. But, for country, the vibes are chill.
What is one of your favorite memories? Going to Six Flags Great America with my family when I was really young. Even though I didn’t like the roller coasters or anything, I enjoyed spending time with them and having a good time. I used to play those carnival games instead of going on the rides, because I was a little kid and didn’t like them, so that brought me joy. Also, another memory would be playing baseball.
What are some nicknames that you have, and where do they come from? Well, my name is short already, but people like to say A.C. 10. (Outside guest Ryan Lockerby: “Or Gabriel!”) Okay, Gabriel’s my middle name. But, A.C. 10, because my initials are A.C., and then my baseball number is 10, and it’s been 10 since I was six or seven years old. (Lockerby: “Or also, Big Red.”) No, no, nobody calls me that.
What would your drag name be? I would name myself Ryan Lockerby.
Who would you invite to your dream dinner party? LeBron, alright… My friends. My dad. Ms. Torres. Is there a limit? (“No.”) Let’s see… Miguel Cabrera, who’s a baseball player. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Kevin Hart; I feel like they’re a good duo, and they’ll really entertain the show. And then, two more… Let’s do Adam Sandler and Patrick Mahomes, because I want to see if the Ketchup Theory is true, like how he puts ketchup on everything.
What’s something about you that nobody knows? My grandma’s turning 100 years old in March, and she’s super, super healthy and super, super cool. Hopefully, I have her genes. She was born in 1926. It’s crazy.
What’s something about you that you wish people understood better? That I mean well. Sometimes, I can say something that’s the wrong thing, but, of course, I don’t mean it. I don’t usually mean to ever say something wrong, but sometimes I’ll say something that doesn’t sound the nicest, or doesn’t sound appropriate. But I don’t mean it like that, because sometimes I just say whatever comes to my mind. I don’t really think before I speak, usually.
Is there something else that you want to tell readers that I didn’t mention? Shout-out to Ms. Torres for helping me get an A in Financial Accounting, and being an amazing DECA advisor, and helping me medal at my role play.
