Concert goes according to Script: Irish band rocks the Aragon

For their second year in a row, The Script blew Chicago away with an amazing concert at the Aragon Ballroom in support of their third album, #3.

The Script is an Irish pop rock-band that formed originally as MyTown. Band members include  vocalist and keyboard player Danny O’Donoghue, guitarist Mark Sheehan and drummer/multi-instrumentalist Glen Power.   Their first album, The Script debuted in 2008 and topped the charts in the UK and Ireland. In 2010, their second album, Science & Faith hit the shelves, featuring hits “For the First Time” and “Nothing.” Finally, their newest album, #3, was released earlier in September and is charting number 2 in the UK.

I went to the Chicago show thinking that their last record was not quite as amazing as their first two albums. However, I just fell in love with their new songs as soon as O’Donoghue opened his mouth to sing them, and I spent the whole day after the concert jamming to the them.

The Script made their grand-entrance with “Hall of Fame” from the new album. They continued rocking out to “Good Ol’ Days,” “Six Degrees of Separation,” “We Cry” and many other songs from their new album as well as some old ones. The Script closed with older songs “Nothing” and “For the First Time.”

I don’t know which was more entertaining: O’Donoghue’s amazing voice or  Sheehan’s awesome checkered red skinny pants. The band danced around, joined the crowd at times and even took pictures with fans. Unfortunately, I was not one of the lucky ones who were photographed with the band, but I had a very close spot.

The Aragon lights and the crazy crowd made my experience even better. The crowd was lively; even lead singer O’Donoghue was amazed at one point when the audience sang “Breakeven” on their own. Audience members presented the band with twoChicago flags signed by the crowd to welcome the band. The beautiful Aragon lights matched up with the tone and the mood of the band’s songs, sometimes flashing red, while at other times twinkling like stars.

Even the opening act of the concert, Tristan Prettyman, was amazing. If you don’t know her, you should check her out. She is a singer-songwriter with a new record called Cedar + Gold. Although I had never heard of her, a few people in front of me were really happy and told me that she has amazing talent. They were right.

Overall, The Script’s concert at the Aragon Ballroom not only made my weekend the best weekend of my life but it also made me fall in love with their new album. You should definitely go see them next time they are in the city.
