Early in the school day on August 17, a car crashed into the trees in front of the engineering building near the main entrance of Niles North High School. Thankfully, nobody was hurt and no irreparable damage has been done to the area.
“First I wanted to make sure that everyone was alright. Then it made me appreciate our police officers and firefighters because they were working extremely hard to clean it all up. Nobody seemed angry with the people who had crashed; they were only concerned with fixing the situation at hand,” Ihab Hachami said. Hachami is a senior and photographer for North Star News who went outside early this morning to photograph the incident.
Rumors of the crash spread rapidly through the school, however in reality the accident was resolved by around third period. A driver from the school’s security department happened to be in the parking lot at the time and witnessed the entire crash.
“He saw the accident happen and assisted the people in the vehicle. Then the police and fire department arrived and assisted the situation,” Al Lopez, head of security at Niles North, said.
A simple mistake was admirably handled by local authorities as well as school security. The car was quickly towed and nothing much came out of a potentially dangerous situation.
