Creative Cooking Club will be meeting this Wednesday at 3:40 p.m. in Room 1610.
If you are interested in learning a new recipe this week, be sure to arrive as soon as possible. The cooking session will be capped at 24 students since only four students can safely and comfortably operate each of the six cooking labs.
Regardless of whether you are a seasoned professional or are unsure of how to use an oven, Creative Cooking Club will meet you where you are.
“We give you all the tools and knowledge needed to conquer the recipe each time we meet. There are many varying cooking abilities in the club, and that is OK! No experience needed,” Michael Swiakiewicz, culinary arts teacher, says.
The club is run similarly to how our Niles North Chefs classes operate, offering students who do not take the class a chance to test it out before they sign up or benefit from culinary instruction if they cannot fit the class into their schedule.
“We know that not everybody gets a chance to cook during class or at home. This club provides ALL students with access to food, recipes, and other students who share the same passion for cooking,” Swiakiewicz says.
Even if you do cook at home, attending a Creative Cooking session can introduce you to new culinary techniques and yummy recipes.
“I would come to learn how to cook professionally,” senior Sandra Montero says.
If you are used to cooking by taste-testing or measuring with your hands, the club is also a great opportunity to experiment and learn how to use concrete measurements to cook.
Beyond educational value, the club encourages students to participate actively and express their own creativity through the recipes that are picked each week.
“Students really enjoy being able to make suggestions each week and deciding on what to cook at the following club meeting,” Swiakiewicz says.
So, if you are interested in being an active fellow chef this week, come by Room 1610 and learn some new tricks.
After all, as Swiakiewicz says, “There is one thing for sure, no matter what you do in your life, you will ALWAYS have to eat!”
