It’s about that time where students all around the United states must take a test that will determine their future, the dreaded ACT.
The ACT is a test designed to test student in four categories: math, english, science, and reading comprehension. A writing portion is optional. This test will be used by colleges to determine whether you can get accepted into their school.
“Act makes me stressed and worried everyday because I know that it will influence my decision for college. At the same time Act is something I look forward to and is fun at times,” Peter Yoon said.
But don’t freak out because that’s the last thing you should ever do, especially when your taking a long rigorous test like this. Here’s some advice to people who are taking it for the first time.
Wake up an hour and a half before the ACT so you’ll be fully awake and ready to take the test. Most people wake up thirty minutes before the test to have a quick breakfast and head over right away. But having the extra hour will help your brain to wake up so you won’t lose focus during the test.
Don’t forget to eat breakfast. Seriously, people say it’s the most important meal of the day for a reason. Eat or you’ll regret it when your stomach starts to growl in front of 30 other kids taking the test. Bring a snack and water with you too so during the break you can have something to ease your dying stomach.
Wear a watch that is opposite of your dominant hand. This is a easy way to keep track of the time while not having to waste even a second by looking up at the clock. Having the watch on your non dominant hand you can still fill in a bubble while checking the time.
When it comes to the reading comprehension it’s a good idea to look at the questions first so that you know what to look for while you’re reading the passage. The questions that give you a line are the easiest to answer.
These little tips will help you be successful when taking the ACT this Saturday on Oct. 24 at 8 a.m.
