While some of us are still getting readjusted to being at school, the Niles North drama department hit the ground running the first school play, Lord of the Flies. If you passed sophomore English you probably remember reading Lord of the Flies by William Golding, but you’ve never experienced the book in this light.
Set on a deserted island, Lord of the flies is a play about a group of British boys stuck on an uninhabited island who try to govern themselves with disastrous results. Along their journey they discover harm, lies, truth, and the golden tool of survival.
“I think not everyone really got into the book when they were forced to read it but the way we have rehearsed it and are presenting it shows the story in a new light and with a fresher tone.” Nina Codell said. “This play is special and different from other plays because everyone thinks they know what they’re getting but in actuality we’re producing a play that will let you have multiple interpretations.”
The drama department got the chance to showcase their production to the school on Thursday to students taken by their classes, but this was just their warm-up. If you’re interested in seeing this spectacular play come to the Niles North black box Friday or Saturday at 7 p.m., but don’t wait until the door to purchase your tickets or else it could be sold out! Tickets are being sold for $1o so don’t miss it live!
