While other schools were asleep in math class and running laps in gym, Niles North was celebrating their homecoming assembly with lights, a DJ, and an unbelievable amount of school spirit.
Kicking off the assembly, Dance Marathon announced raising about $850 for their charity this year, and while everyone was a winner for helping support, the senior class took the competition by being the largest contributing class.
After hearing the rules for the spirit stick, meeting our judges and then being dazzled by our own viketes, each couple for homecoming court was brought in and given the best seats in the house; front and center stage.
Fall sports were introduced next and each team showcased their members. Whether it was through video or homecoming proposals, each sport got the crowd pumped up and excited for the reveal for homecoming court and the infamous spirit stick competition.
Teacher of the year, Andrew Klamm, was brought on stage to present the 2015 homecoming king; Jacob Austria, and homecoming queen; Ada Torres.
“Being together in one room and showing that pride brings everyone together made me feel so lucky to be nominated for court and as homecoming queen.” Torres said.
Principal Ryan Mctague awarded Austria with his crown and cape, and Torres with her tiara and flowers.
With only one thing left to do, the spirit stick rivalry began. After going through each class and letting them shout their spirit as loud as possible, it came down to the junior and senior class. The seniors came out victorious and set a new record for being the only class to ever win at least once every year.
And with that students left excited and anxious for the Maine West football that night and the homecoming dance the next day.
