It was a big day and a big win for the Niles North fashion troop. After endless amounts of hard work and determination, North fashion won Judges’ Choice at the Fashion Next for their dress, Careful Chaos. Their design will be showcased at the Chicago History Museum.
Fashion Next consists of ten teams of aspiring designers from across the Chicago area who challenge themselves and eachother in this design competition. Using materials, tools, dress forms, embellishments provided by Azeeza US, and with the guidance of a mentor from the local fashion community, teens set out to create a look inspired by Chicago itself.
“What’s so exciting about this experience is what the designer will show and what kind of style and patterns he/she will use,” sophomore Elisabeth Varvaroi said.
“The fashion competition is a group of eight of us who designed an outfit for the Chicago History Museum: The Magnificent Mile and the history of it is so beautiful. We worked very hard for this competition and I hope this is a great experience for the fashion troop,” designer and junior Sean Loach said.
“It was very hard designing Careful Chaos. What fabric to use, what color to add, and what patterns to make the dress stand out were many of the problems the designers dealt with. It took us a long time and a lot of hard work, but this was an amazing experience because we learned a lot from it and what’s important is our hard work helped us win,” lead designer Inga Mazur said.
