On Saturday, March 14 at 7:30 p.m., Second City will be coming to Niles North as a fundraiser put together by the Fine Arts Parents and Patrons and the Athletic Booster Club. This event raises money for the athletic and fine arts departments.
Second City is an improvisational comedy act. The group originated in Chicago, but they now travel all over the United States doing shows for different organizations. It began in the 1950’s as a small groups of undergraduates who met at Jimmy’s Woodlawn Tap, a bar on the University of Chicago campus, which later became the Compass Players, a 1950’s cabaret revue show. The Second City Theatre opened on December 16, 1959 and has since expanded its presence to several other cities, including Toronto and Los Angeles.
Second City has produced television programs in both the United States and Canada including SCTV, Second City Presents, and Next Comedy Legend. Since its debut, Second City has consistently been a starting point for comedians, award winning actors, directors, and others in show business.
“Don’t miss the most exciting, most fun, event of the century for all Vikings,” athletic director Karl Costello said.
The event features some famous actors and actresses that will perform some skits that connect with Niles North, and some that won’t. Some of their material is already prepared, but they will ask the audience for some ideas so they can throw something together. There will be some impersonations and comedy skits.
General tickets are $30, and limited cabaret seating is $50. There will be a 50/50 raffle, and you can buy tickets online here.
