Swing on by the auditorium tonight, October 22, at 7:30 p.m. to check out the Viking Strings’ first big appearance at our school. The will be performing in Niles North’s Choir and Orchestra Concert.
Viking Strings is a combination of band, orchestra, and choir, geared towards a more alternative style of music. They have been preparing long and hard, meeting every Wednesday morning and Friday afternoon since the beginning of the school year. The group will be performing contemporary pop hit “Let Her Go” by Passenger and an oldie but a goodie, “Ring Of Fire” by Johnny Cash.
“I’m playing my harmonica on “Ring of Fire” tonight. I’m using one of those harmonica holders, like folk singers and old country stars used. It’s going to be pretty rad,” said freshman Katie Sue Aanerud.
Like Pep Band, Viking Strings is a club that invites musicians of all levels of experience. It has also offered student musicians a diverse instrumental experience in a group setting.
“I really enjoy playing my ukulele with Viking Strings because it’s an instrument that’s not usually thrown into an orchestra setting,” said Katie Sue, “It’s very unique.”
Niles North’s choir and orchestra will also be performing some excellent tunes earlier in the performance tonight.
Whether you’re a follower of our school’s fine arts organiztions, or just a music lover, the performances tonight are bound to be entertaining and enjoyable.
