The homecoming football game contained many things to be happy about, including the parade, the marching band halftime show, and the return of 50 years worth of alumni to Niles North. However, the score was not one of those things, as the Vikings were defeated by the Glenbrook South Titans 51-7.
In the first half of the game, the Viking offense was unable to score, despite several opportunities. The Titans, on the other hand, managed to rack up 30 points before the conclusion of the second quarter. “We probably totaled maybe a hundred fifty to a hundred sixty yards in the first half and we had nothing to show,” Head Coach Mark Egofske said.
The second half brought no relief for the Vikings, as Glenbrook South went on to score an additional three touchdowns. However, that did not stop the Vikings from scoring in the fourth quarter with about 5:00 to go in the game. “You need to score when you get the opportunity. We didn’t, and as the game unfolded, it seemed that we lost a little a little zip in our step and in our game,” Egofske said.
Despite the loss, the homecoming celebrations created an incredible experience and atmosphere for students, faculty, alumni, and the general public. Check back soon for pictures from this once in a lifetime event, courtesy of Melissa Brander, Mandy Aragon, Kris Estacion, and myself.
