The Niles North varsity football team kicked off the season with new head coach Patrik Pistorio last Friday, Aug.  24 against Al Raby with the first home game.

He was ready and made sure his players were in good condition to perform their best on the field.

“Our players have put in a lot of time… throughout our summer camp our schedule was very demanding. We were looking [at] what we put together for them. The structure included weight lifting consistently [and]  lots of running to make sure their cardio was in place for the first game,” Pistorio said.

Coach Pistorio was ready to take on Al Raby with his starting lineup consisting of Myles Davis (WR,SS), Tremaine Conner (QB), Jonathan Noel (LB), Jaelyn White (WR,DB), and Sayvon Davis (WR,DB).

Last year Al Raby football made the class 4A state football playoff but lost in the semifinal round. Niles North knew they had to work hard, as they were going against a state-qualifying football team.

Myles Davis, senior, was one the starters of this game. He was ready to get on the field with his team to make sure they stayed united as one and did their best.

When asked about what he was anticipating most about the game Davis commented,  “Keeping the team together and being a captain and being a leader… making sure I lead my team the right way.”

Tremaine Conner, senior quarterback, got the game started with a touchdown pass to CJ Harris who scored the first touchdown of the night. Conner did a great job finishing the game with 330 yards of total offense and 6 touchdown passes.Throughout the whole game the Vikings maintained a lead against Al Raby. The game finished with a score of 40-26 leaving the Vikings with a victory.

Other players who had notable performances included, Sayvon Davis with two touchdowns, CJ Harris with two touchdowns, and Todian Daveed with 17 tackles.

The team was excited about their first win but knew that it was just the beginning.

“I think we performed decent for the first game, we still got a lot of stuff we need to work on [and] get better. It’s just a good win for our morale [and] get the train rolling. Playoffs is the goal,” White said.
