Ornament+ideas+to+spruce+up+holiday+trees

One way to tell people you love them is to give them a meaningful and thoughtful gift during the holiday season. Here are some ornaments that are sure to spruce up your Christmas tree and also make perfect gifts!

Shredded Wheat Christmas Wreath Ornament (with frame option)

Supplies:

  • Shredded Wheat Cereal

  • Glue (Elmer’s will do)

  • Green Food Coloring

  • Red Bow or Red Glitter Glue

  • Large Bowl

  • Cookie sheet or parchment paper

With the picture frame, you will also need:

  • Green paper

  • Glue Gun or Super Glue

Cut out green paper into circles 3 to 4 inches in diameter. If desired, cut out pictures the same sizes of the circles and paste. Lay out circles on cookie sheet or parchment paper.

Pour out shredded wheat cereal in a large bowl and crush. Mix in glue and green food coloring. Add glue and food coloring until the mixture is thick and green.

Take out a handful of the dough and shape around circles. Don’t make too thick, otherwise it will be too heavy on a tree branch.Allow to dry overnight.

Glue red ribbon tied into a bow or draw bow in red glitter glue on the bottom center of the wreath. Attach an additional ribbon in the shape of a loop on the back to allow the ornament to hang. Let dry.

Yes, we know it sounds a bit gross and messy, but this ornament looks amazing when finished and may also include a picture of the person you’re possibly gifting the ornament to!

If this project seems a bit too messy for your liking, there are many other options for ornaments to make. Plain white spherical ornaments can be bought at craft stores and are fun to draw with sharpies or other markers on. Additionally, plain wooden ornaments can be found at craft stores and can be decorated with glitter, sequins, and stick-on gems. Oven-bake clay can also become easy-made ornaments.

There are many ways to be creative and make thoughtful gifts this holiday season. As many say, it’s the thought that counts, so even if your ornament may not come out as you had pictured it, anyone will appreciate something you worked hard on.

Have fun making ornaments and happy holidays!
