Perhaps no elite golfer has had his pedigree questioned more over the past few years than Colin Morikawa. After winning the PGA Championship in 2020 and the Open Championship in 2021, all before turning 25, Morikawa looked to be the sport’s next juggernaut. But since lifting the Claret Jug at Royal St. George’s, he had gone nearly four seasons without a PGA Tour regular season victory, struggling to contend at the majors and eventually parting ways with longtime caddie J.J. Jakovac.
At the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am in Pebble Beach, Calif., Morikawa ended that drought with a one-shot victory. He closed with a 5-under-par 67 to finish at 22-under overall, edging out Min Woo Lee and Sepp Straka by a single stroke. Morikawa sealed the win with a birdie on the par-5 18th after a lengthy waiting period on the hole, earning 700 FedExCup points and a $3.6 million winner’s payout.
World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler carded the best round of the day (63) with three eagles, making a strong push but ultimately finishing a few shots back. The victory marked Morikawa’s seventh PGA Tour title and his first since the 2023 ZOZO Championship, snapping an 847-day winless streak on the main tour.
Afterwards, Morikawa announced he was expecting his first child alongside his wife Kathrine. “We just started telling people this week, and we said what a better way and the best way to announce it to the world, if I was able to come out and win. There’s so much to life, there’s so much to enjoy. I’m hard on myself like I talked about yesterday, but I’m just so thankful for the people around me, my team, Kat, my wife, my parents, my brother,” Morikawa continued. “I’m speechless right now.”
