Jordan DeGeorge, Strength and conditioning coordinator

What is your name? Jordan Degeorge

What is your job title? Year in school? I am the strength and conditioning coordinator

Where were you born? Deloitte, Wisconsin

Which language(s) do you speak other than English? I took spanish for four years in high school and was solid at the time but don’t have much of it left

What is your hobby? I like working out, playing video games, I like hanging out with my wife watching movies and TV shows

Do you have a favorite food? Show? Artist? Sports team? For sports teams I’m a Wisconsin Badger fan and Chicago Cubs fan. And I’m a huge boxing fan. So I have a lot of fighters who I follow. For my favorite foods, I like a lot of stuff. A lot of the stuff I like I don’t let myself eat very often. I love things that are sweet, I love pastries and donuts but I don’t allow myself very often

What would you like to see more of at Niles North? I’d like to see continued growth in student engagement a continued desire to get the most out of every day from our student body so that their four years here are really really valuable for them so that when they leave they got the most out of this place possible rather than just shuffling through the halls every time the bell rings and i think we got a lot of that but we can always grow.

What would you like to see less of at Niles North?I would like to see less tearing down of the people who are working the hardest. I don’t like when people, as a way to avoid hard work, try to devalue the extra effort that others put in I think that’s a poison that spreads really really fast that we have to fight against pretty hard

What do you do to make NN a safe place to learn?Well the one thing i love about the weight room is the only thing that matters in there is the time and the effort you put in. The weights have no idea what colors your skin, your sexual orientation, your gender, it doesn’t know anything about you other than time and effort so I like that it’s a really true meritocracy and I try to make sure that students understand that. And I think it’s a great place where you are just totally rewarded for the effort you put in and I think protecting that environment, because not every environment is going to be that pure, but I think in the weight room we do have a chance to maintain that purity of that environment. I think if you have a chance to be exposed to that it’s really beneficial as a young person.

How do you bring positivity to Niles North?Well I do my best to walk that line in between challenging and encouraging our athletes and our students who are in the weight room, I think that it’s good to be hard on students but not harsh, so that allows you to help them continue to ramp up what they realize they’re capable of but also being very supportive and encouraging along the way. So I think there’s a little balance there and sometimes I might go a little too far on either side but I think the more we go back and forth I think the better it is for our students to be pushed and be acknowledged for the progress that they’ve made as well.
