Ticketmaster put out tickets for Taylor Swift’s new Eras Tour on November 15, leaving millions of fans across the country disappointed.

3.5 million people had signed up to receive access to the presale, but only 1.5 million received access, forcing the remaining fans who were not able to get on the site to wait in line. Almost 2 million fans waited on the site for hours to buy tickets, and some weren’t even able to get to the site because it had crashed from bots and fake accounts.

Due to the high demand for tickets, the price increased significantly. Some fans even paid as much as $20,000 for a ticket. The Era tour tickets began at $49 and went up to $449, and the highest price for VIP tickets was $899. On November 17, Ticketmaster then put out a statement saying they were not selling tickets to the general public anymore, due to high demand for tickets and insufficient amount of tickets.

Swift then released a statement on Instagram stories. “We asked them, multiple times, if they could handle this demand, and we were assured they could,” Swift said.

Many people think Ticketmaster should break apart from their parent company Live Nation Entertainment as a result of this chaotic incident.

When asked about the Ticketmaster situation, Penelope Roewe, a student at Niles North says, “My dad waited in queues all day and even tried calling B96 to get tickets, and he was still not able to get tickets, even with a Capital One card.” She was able to get tickets from her friend that are all the way back in the nosebleeds for about $100.

Ticketmaster tweeted an apology on Twitter saying, “We want to apologize to Taylor and all of her fans – especially those who had a terrible experience trying to purchase tickets.” Hopefully, this situation is a learning experience for Ticketmaster, and in the future there are more precautions taken for such popular artists like Taylor Swift.
