Trump commuted, pardoned eleven convicted felons

On February 18, President Donald Trump commuted and pardoned eleven people who were convicted felons.

One individual that was communed was former Illinois governor, Rod Blagojevich, who was convicted of selling the vacant Senate seat of Barack Obama to become president back in 2009, according to CNN.

Blagojevich was released from prison after serving eight of his 14 year sentence. Blagojevich wasn’t supposed to be released until 2024, until President Trump had commuted his sentence, according to CNN

Although Blagojevich is free, he is still a felon, according to The Chicago Tribune

Blagojevich was impeached and removed by lawmakers, and was convicted of 18 charges. Blagojevich was sentenced to 14 years in prison. 

Aides tried to convince President Donald Trump against lowering Blagojevich’s prison sentence, thinking it would be a bad idea. However, Jared Kushner, Trump’s senior advisor promoted on reducing his sentence, according to CNN.Another individual who was commuted was San Francisco 49ers team owner, Eddie DeBartolo Jr. He was guilty for failing to report a felony in a bribery case, which led to a Louisiana Gov. getting sent to prison. DeBartolo Jr. didn’t serve jail time, however, he agreed to pay $1M in fines and gave up his ownership of the 49ers to his sister, according to CNN.
