The Niles North varsity coed cheer team is set to compete this weekend at their competition debut. The team will be traveling to Belvidere North on Friday, December 16 and Rolling Meadows on Saturday, December 17.
The team performed its intense, high energy routine this past friday for the student body at pep assembly, and even though the nerves were high then, they are starting to skyrocket this week.
There are definitely a lot of expectations of the team after they placed 3rd last year at the state finals.
“I would say I am definitely excited for this weekend, but of course I’m nervous. This is my last first competition so it’s even more nerve wracking. Despite having this nervous feeling for 4 years, it never truly goes away. The nerves always set in and give me butterflies, even though I know they’re unnecessary. I am very excited, I love being able to go out onto a blue mat and show people what we’ve worked so hard on. I would say I’m feeling a mixture of pride, nervousness, and excitement,” says Kelly Colleran, senior captain.
However, the vikings need your help this weekend. Pack the stands at both competitions and make a huge Niles North fan section. The more, the merrier. It has been proven that the team does better when they have a bigger fan section. Tell your friends!
The team will be competing at 6:54 PM this friday and 7 PM on saturday.
