After a slow start to 2015, the music industry is about to end the year on a high note with the help of multiple new albums releases. These bodies of work vary from genres like Electronic Dance Music (EDM), rock, and rap. This friday November 13 2015 has a superstar lineup of albums being released.
Of these superstars is up and coming singer and songwriter, Alessia Cara. The nineteen year old first released her top 15 Billboard Hot 100 hit titled ‘Here” in April from her debut extended play (ep) ‘Four Pink Walls’, which reached number 11 on the Canadian Albums Chart and peaked at 31 on the Billboard 200 chart. She then announced her debut album titled ‘Know-it-all’ for this friday released through Def Jam.
Also causing a stir is british boyband, One Direction. Their fifth album and first since the departure of former member Zayn Malik, is also set for November 13. Titled ‘Made in the A.M.’, it is already breaking many records. Their first single titled ‘Drag Me Down’ was released July 31 2015 and debuted in the top three of the Billboard Hot 100, giving the band their largest sales week with 350,000 copies sold. Their second single titled ‘Perfect’ was released October 16 2015 and debuted at number ten on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
After a three year absence from the music industry, pop superstar Justin Bieber is returning with his fifth upcoming album, ‘Purpose’. Described by himself as an inspirational body of work, Bieber returns stronger than ever after years of public scrutiny including run ins with the law and a false arrest. His first single titled ‘What Do You Mean?’ was released August 2015 and debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100, giving the superstar the first number one of his career and helped him break the Guinness World Record as being the youngest male solo artist to ever debut at number one at only 21 years old. His second single titled ‘Sorry’ was released October 2015 and debuted at number two on the Billboard Hot 100, making Bieber the only act alongside Eminem and Mariah Carey, to have their first two singles from an album debut within the top two of the Billboard Hot 100. With collaborations like Nas, Skrillex, Diplo, Ariana Grande, Big Sean, Travis Scott, and Halsey, ‘Purpose’ is set to slay.
“I’m so excited for Justin Bieber to return with Purpose. His new music has sounded better than ever and you can honestly see his growth since the beginning of his career” Merab Kalem, senior, said.
Lastly, called upon by many as being the most anticipated album of 2015, superstar Adele is set to return with her third studio album ‘25’ on November 20 2015. After three number one’s and six grammy’s from her last album titled ‘21’, the british singer and songwriter took a four year hiatus for her next big release. She returned with ‘Hello’ which released October 2015 and broke a monstrous amount of records.
“Adele is the queen of music right now, so it is no surprise that she is making so much history literally every single single day” Sara Zengoska, senior, said.
It became the first song with over a million digital sales in a week and broke the record for the largest sales week of any single since Elton John‘s “Candle in the Wind/Something About the Way You Look Tonight” in 1997. Its music video broke the Vevo Record by achieving over 27.7 million views within a 24-hour span and became the fastest Vevo certified music video with over 100 million views in its first three days of release.
With such super star releases, 2015 is about to end on a higher note than ever.
