From March 18-20, over 1,500 students from across the state gathered for the annual Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) State Leadership Conference, with Niles North being well represented, bringing 24 students to the three-day event.
The conference kicked off with a mix of excitement and jitters. The first full day of the conference included events and the official opening ceremony. Keynote speaker Hoan Do inspired students with remarks on leadership, perseverance, and making an impact beyond healthcare.
Day two was the highlight for many as students participated in more events, putting months of preparation for the test. From checking vitals to spelling the right medical terminology, Niles North students demonstrated skill and dedication. The day concluded with a social event, allowing students to relax and connect with peers from across the state.
On day three, Niles North students earned impressive recognitions. State finalists included juniors Kiswa Karim, Anna Winer, and Carys Racela, while International Leadership Conference qualifiers were juniors Hafsa Ali, Kiswa Karim, Carys Racela and Michaela Paramben and sophomore Syed Zaidi.
“I was so shocked when I heard my name announced for third place in my event, Paramben said.” “I thought I didn’t do as well, but it turns out I was wrong. I can’t wait for nationals.”
Overall, the HOSA State Leadership Conference offered students a chance to grow academically, socially, and professionally, leaving participants inspired for the future.
