Everyone knows the Chicago Cubs and the White Sox are city rivals. This past season, the Cubs did much better than the Sox, which many find surprising. In fact, the Cubs even made it to the playoffs this year. Obviously, Cubs fans are very excited about this, considering the Cubs haven’t been in the playoffs in seven years. They’re slowly making their way to the world series; in “Back to The Future Part Two”, it was predicted that the Cubs would win the 2015 world series. When it comes to Sox fans, they have split opinions.
“I supported the Cubs during the postseason,” Nora Gaul, senior, said. “I’m a Sox fan, but my mom is a Cubs fan so she kind of wanted me to support them. But they’re also a Chicago team, and it’s nice to support your city.”
Most Sox fans, Gaul, are supportive of the Cubs. They are a fellow Chicago team, and they were able to accomplish something they haven’t done in a very long time. Other Sox fans, like me, aren’t as supportive of the Cubs.
Personally I don’t like the Cubs. The main reason for this is because I don’t want to believe that they’re actually doing better than us. I don’t want to think of the Cubs as a team that actually did better than the Sox this season. The Sox have been in the World Series (and won) more recently than the Cubs. But now the Cubs have beat us, that’s not something many Sox fans thought possible. Granted the White Sox weren’t so hot this season, it was a surprise to see the Cubs do as well as they did.
Overall, It’s nice to have a Chicago team in the playoffs. I just wanted it to be the White Sox. The prediction “Back To The Future Part Two” had predicted over 25 years ago is coming true.
