If you are waiting for a chance to experience more on Snapchat then today is your lucky day! On September 15, Snapchat introduced a new update that allows the user to add lenses to their selfies, letting millions of people across the world interact in yet another way.
“We’re thrilled to announce a whole new way to express yourself on Snapchat,” the application’s creators said on their website.
To many unsuspecting snapchatters, this update came as a pleasant surprise to what was shaping up to be an average Tuesday afternoon. By the end of the day, countless stories had been posted showcasing the newly released lenses.
“I hadn’t even realized there was an update. Then I saw all these crazy animations on everyone’s story, and I found out these new things called lenses were released. At first I thought they were a little silly but they’ve definitely got me to use Snapchat more than I have been,” Yousuf Quraishi, junior, said.
To activate lenses, the snapchatter simply needs to press and hold down on their face. One important thing to note is that the camera being used must be the front camera, or else the lenses will not activate. Additionally, this is all done before the picture is taken.
The lenses are as followed: a shocked face, an angry face, an aged face, a face spewing rainbow, a robotic face, a lovestruck face, and a face in tears. The technology behind the new update very impressively and accurately scans the user’s face.
The new update has a few other hidden gems that were overshadowed by the lenses. A trophy case displays statistics about your Snapchat use, such as number of pictures taken with a flash from the front camera. Extra replays (to let snaps be viewed again) are now purchasable as well.
If the selfie game will ever be the same after this update is yet to be seen, but judging by the mass stories incorporating the unique animations, Snapchat may very well have changed the way the world communicates once again.
