Shoot. Punt. Score. One of Niles North’s most successful sports teams is the Boys Soccer team. Last week on Wednesday, the boys played against Mather High School, but sadly ended the game with a score of 0-1.
The team has a total of 14 seniors, making up a majority of the team. Captains this year are Fanuel Teclai, Matt Naranjo, Chris Patino, and Ricky Torres. The boys have been working hard not only this season, but since their freshmen year. The team has a lot of returning and new members, and so far they’re off to a good start. They are coached by Filip Cejovic.
“I felt we played well against them, dominated the whole game, but just made an error and they took advantage of it,” Torres senior says, “But that’s soccer… things don’t always go our way but overall, I’m happy with how we played together as a team.”
“Mather was a tough game against a good team,” Alem Zukančić junior says, “We showed great character to come back from 1-0 down and we’re only moving up from here.”
Seeing what the boys brought to the field, as I cheered them on from the sidelines, last Wednesday really made me hopeful of the boy soccer team this year.
I smell another CSL championship, Vikings!
The teams next home game is against Glenbrook North on September 24th! Also, they play against Niles West October 10! Be there or be square.
