Valentine’s Day recipe: Oreo truffles

Valentines+Day+recipe%3A+Oreo+truffles

Whether you’re spending this Valentine’s Day alone or with a loved one, Oreo truffles are the perfect indulgence. Here’s what you’ll need to get started:

  • One 16 oz. package of Oreo cookies
  • One 8 oz. package of Philadelphia cream cheese, softened
  • Two 8 oz. packages of semi-sweet baking chocolate

This recipe makes about three and a half dozen truffles and the preparation time is only about an hour, so you’ll have plenty of food and plenty of time to share with that special someone – even if that someone means yourself.

First, you’ll need to fill a Ziploc bag with the Oreo cookies. Seal the bag and using a rolling pin, crush the cookies to fine crumbs. Place them in a medium sized bowl. Add the softened cream cheese into the bowl and mix it together with the cookies until well blended. Form the mixture into 42 balls, each about one inch in diameter.

Next, you’ll need to melt the chocolate. Pour both packages of baking chocolate into a medium sized bowl and begin to microwave it in 10-15 second intervals to ensure that the chocolate doesn’t burn. Every 10-15 seconds, take the bowl out of the microwave and stir the chocolate. Repeat until the chocolate is fully melted.

The last step is to place the truffle balls in the melted chocolate, rolling them if necessary to make sure that they’re fully coated. Lift the truffles from the chocolate using two forks to allow excess chocolate to run off and place them on a baking sheet covered in wax paper. If you want to, you can put sprinkles on the truffles or drizzle them with a different color chocolate for added decoration. Finally, refrigerate the truffles until they’re firm.

Happy Valentine’s Day and enjoy!
