Guidance counselor Susan Nash is retiring after 20 years of working in District 219.
Nash was not only a guidance counselor at North, but she was also a Chinese Club sponsor early in her career.
When asked about a favorite memory about Niles North, Nash said, “In Chinese Club, we used to stage annual programs around New Years. We put on performances for the entire school to simply share our culture. Those celebrations were really memorable…”
Before coming to North, Nash was a Chicago Public Schools guidance counselor. She originally came to North to simply observe to improve her own school. However, she became the first Asian faculty member in District 219 in 1992.
After retirement, Nash hopes to travel, relax and continue her PhD in Clinical Psychology. Once she gets her doctorate, she hopes to do private practice. Her dissertation, she says, is on “Asian American Students and the influences in their lives that allow them to select or go into a certain career.”
“I am having a hard time to right now to just imagine how much more time I will have… I am going to miss all of my students whom I have really grown attached to,” Nash said.
Junior Ryan Loach, one of Nash’s students said, “She always works really hard to make sure we get what we need. She is always there for us and really has our best interests in mind.”
