A contingent of Niles North students competed at the recent German High School Day at University of Illinois in Chicago.
The festivities of the day included competitions (City Guide, Culture Essay, Poetry, Spelling Bee, and Skits, Video Commercial, Culture Essay, and Cover Photo Contest) against other schools, games, classroom visits and a campus tour.
Students competed in four contests and placed first in two (City Guide and Skit). Niles North placed first in the German Skit out of seven schools. The skit was required to be in full German language and at least five minutes long. North’s entry was a comedy skit about a girl named Rosie, who dreamed that she was Little Red Riding Hood in the “hood.” Students participating in the skit were juniors Emma Eschker, Ilyas Taraki, and A.J. Bunag and seniors, Gerogia Christus, Lovely Garcia and Breanna Anderson.
Niles North students also earned first place in the City Guide competition. The City Guide is a project in which two (at the most) students put on a skit that maps out a German city. The skit must address the geography and the culture of the city. In the winning skit, sophomore Sarah Stauber and senior Sofia Ballicora toasted the city of Füssen.
Other North students participating in the cultural festivities included freshman Ambrina Sayed and sophomore Katharine Andrew (reciting German poetry) and juniors Sabrina Gheorghita and Ivan Korkes (spelling bee) and David Liljewall (German essay).
Herzlichen Glückwunsch! Congratulations to all those who participated.
