The District 219 Board of Education recently appointed two Niles North faculty members for new administrative positions, in effect July 1, 2013.
Starting in the fall of the 2014-2015 school year, Tony Bradburn, who is currently the director of English and Reading at North, will take on a new role as director of the new Humanities Department. The new management system nt will include Reading, English, and History departments.
Previously, Bradburn worked at Rolling Meadows High School as an English teacher and staff development coordinator. Later, he spent three years at Dundee Crown High School as the division head for English and ESL before coming to Niles North.
Bradburn’s new position will require collaboration with each department in order to further promote the improvement of student literacy skills.
“The purpose of it all is to equip all teachers to be aware of the literacy skills that the students need in order to successfully navigate those content areas, whether it be English or social studies. Over the summer we’ll be working on projects, gathering data and doing curricular work with a literacy focus,” Bradburn said.
Page Powell, currently Niles North’s Special Education coordinator, will be promoted as assistant director of Special Education. Prior to earning her position as Special Education coordinator, Powell was a special education teacher at North in the Bridges Transition Program.
“…it’s going to be a great opportunity to continue to work with the Special Education department and continue to provide the best services and supports for students with disabilities,” Powell said.
