As finals week approaches, studying for finals is something high school students dread. Content from August can be overwhelming to try to study, and certainly cramming it all in one night won’t do the trick. Here are 9 ways to make studying more manageable and even fun!
Form a Study Group
Studying with friends can keep you motivated and make difficult concepts easier to understand with many brains. Make sure your group stays focused by assigning topics to each member and quizzing each other!
Reward Yourself
Set small goals and give yourself little rewards when you achieve them. For example, after finishing a chapter, treat yourself to a snack, a walk, or a short break doing something you enjoy.
Change Your Study Location
Sometimes a new environment can improve focus. Try studying somewhere different, like your local library or even a quiet cafe.
Use Fun Stationaries
Colorful pens, sticky notes, and highlights can make reviewing notes more enjoyable and help important information stick in your memory.
Breaks are your best friends
Study for 25-50 minutes, then take a 10-15 minute break. Walk, stretch, or grab a snack; your brain needs it!
Music Helps (Sometimes)
Instrumental or lo-fi beats can help you focus. But avoid blasting your favorite playlist if you’ll end up just singing along.
Sleeping > Cramming
Pulling an all-nighter is tempting… but your brain actually remembers more if you sleep. Short naps help as well!
Quiz Yourself
Use flashcards, apps, or old tests to see what you actually know. Nothing boosts confidence like getting an answer right!
Keep it positive
Finals are stressful, but you’ve got this. Take deep breaths, stay hydrated, and remember, you survived this semester for a reason!
Finals week doesn’t have to be your nightmare. Break your studying into chunks, take breaks, and reward yourself along the way. You’ve survived the school year this far; you’ve got this!
