The best (and not so great) Super Bowl commercials of 2024

One of the biggest and most entertaining parts of watching the Super Bowl is the commercials, companies will pay huge amounts of money in order for their business to be projected on the day of the big game, here’s a few favorites, and a few that should try again next year

My personal favorite – Rakuten

Starting off strong with the most favorable of the bunch is Rakuten’s Not So Clueless ad, where Alicia Silverstone returns as Cher Horowitz from the movie Clueless. The commercial begins with Supergrass’ Alright in the background as Silverstone talks about the benefits of Rakuten, which is an app that gives you cash back for shopping. The ad also features Cher’s white jeep and her spinning closet, which was a nice addition. Considering the contents of this ad, it easily became one that I remembered.

Pulling at the heartstrings – The Farmers’ Dog

The Farmers’ Dog commercial, Forever, was quite effective while also testing your emotional stability. Coming from a dog owner, this ad was very heartfelt. It follows the story of a young dog owner and her dog throughout their lives, and at the end it shows the fully grown dog and the now woman with her children, all laying together. This successfully portrayed the healthy, happy, and fulfilling lives that everyone wants to live alongside their dog.

Good idea, how successful? – Doordash

One of the most talked about commercials over social media has been Doordash’s All the Ads, where they would reward one lucky winner with all of the items in every Super Bowl, including A 2024 BMW, a check for the winner’s dream home, an all expenses paid trip, and much more. The idea was a great one, but some fans online found themselves constantly rewinding the ad over and over again, even distracting them from the game.

Worst – Temu

The worst, most repetitive commercial of the 2024 Super Bowl was the ad from Temu, not only was the song the most annoying song you would have ever heard. It was played six times throughout the broadcast, playing the same jingle about how you can “shop like a billionaire”. This was no doubt the worst commercial I had seen all night and it was most definitely stuck in my head as I was going to sleep.

Funniest – Uber Eats

Uber Eats’ ad featured many different celebrities such as David and Victoria Beckham, Jennifer Aniston, David Schwimmer, and Usher. The commercial was basically talking about how you need to make room in your memory in order to remember your Uber Eats. This was a really funny, lighthearted commercial, where a handful of celebrities forgot huge milestones in their lives; Victoria Beckham being part of the Spice Girls and Usher forgetting that he was performing at the Super Bowl halftime show.

Overall, most ads played it safe, but I only touched upon five of the many that were broadcasted this Super Bowl, but to me, these were the most memorable. If there was a way I could feature all of my favorites (and least favorites), I would do it, no doubt. It feels like every year, businesses step up wth the ads they decide to put out, and I’m looking forward to next year already.
