Niles North’s Director’s Circle performed “To Die For” on Sept. 7-9. The plot was an 1800s-style historical romance that included lots of mystery and mind games.

When walking into the theatre, all eyes are drawn to the set of a fancy burgundy living room designed by Senior and Thespian, Mia Bearmen. The attention to detail was truly uncanny and even featured a stunning original painting by Senior and Thespian, Bella Ruffner.

Set of “To die for” before the show

Bearmen’s set portrayed a beautiful yet eerie mansion, with numerous trap doors, secret tunnels, and technological gadgets. This meticulously crafted set created a mysterious ambiance and a perfect scene in which the play would take place.

“I did a lot of research on old-timey mansions,” Bearman said. She additionally drew inspiration from, “The words and the description of the set in the script.”

As the lights dim, the extremely talented cast of actors helps to transport you to a world of compelling drama, unexpected jumpscares, and plot twists beyond imagination. With Gen Z’s ever-so-short attention span, the fast-paced nature of this show is sure to keep viewers of all ages consistently engaged and on the edge of their seats.

Senior and lead of the production, Anna Copland, details the unique experience of working in an intimate cast environment.

“Getting to be in a small cast helps you get individual criticisms and get to know your character in a way that if you’re in a really big cast, is harder to do. You really get that one-on-one attention.”

Between the actors, producers, and crew, everyone worked overtime to make sure the play looked amazing and was enjoyable for the audience watching.

“I feel super lucky to have been a part of this production. Everyone working on the show (whether officially in directors circle or not) is so passionate, dedicated, and hard-working. ‘To Die For’ had a lot of different challenges, and we wouldn’t have been able to pull it off without the work of everyone involved” Junior Ella Sorkin said.

Whether you are a rookie to the theatre or a returning veteran, you are sure to walk out of this production knowing it was truly something “To Die For”.

Thank you for giving credit to students Bearman and Ruffner who created the amazing and complex set and artwork for the show! The setting itself was a character in the play! Kudos to the whole cast and crew!
