Management crisis emerges in Europe

As of recently, multiple teams have been having problems with managers in the world of football. With the Champions League running, pressure builds for these teams.

In England, Chelsea has recently sacked English manager, Graham Potter, after a 2-0 loss against Aston Villa. This loss caused Chelsea to drop to 11th place in the Premier League standings.

The sacking of their manager has added much more to their plate as they’ve already been having a rough season with injuries and transfers that haven’t made drastic changes yet.

After Potter was sacked, Bruno Saltor took over for one game. The Spanish manager was a former right back for Brighton. The one game where Saltor managed ended in a draw against Liverpool.

After Saltor’s draw, Frank Lampard decided to manage his former team until the end of the Premier League season. This isn’t the first time the Chelsea legend has managed this team. Lampard managed the team from 2019 to 2021, ending up with a record of 44 wins, 17 draws and 23 losses-a fairly mediocre record for managing a powerhouse like Chelsea.

Lampard’s return has yet to change Chelsea’s performance, as the team has gone 0-4 since he returned-even getting dropped out of the Champions League with a 4-0 loss to Real Madrid through both legs.

In Germany, Bundesiga giants FC Bayern Munich have been in the heat recently due to an inside person leaking their game tactics.

Many people thought that Joao Cancelo was the one to blame, since the Portuguese left back recently joined the team on loan from Manchester City. People theorized that Cancelo leaked the team’s tactics, since the German team is going against Man City in the Champions League.

However, Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann seemed to be the most impacted by the leaks, even stating, “Moles are an endangered species and their search is difficult, but I don’t know if that person will be able to look in the mirror everyday. I try to find out what the reason is. For me it is always important to be able to look in the mirror at night, to treat my players and my fellow coaches well. I hope that this person can’t look in the mirror because it’s not fair.”

Surprisingly, Nagelsmann’s girlfriend, Lena Wurzenberg, has been blamed for leaking the tactics, causing The Reds to sack Nagelsmann.

When Nagelsmann arrived at Bayern Munich in 2021, his girlfriend stepped down from covering the team as a reporter for BILD. This did not change how the team felt about her, as there was still much distrust between her and the team in the locker room.

The team’s feelings about Lena turned out to be right after the Bundesliga team’s tactics ended up on BILD, where Nagelsmann’s girlfriend works.

This caused the club to suddenly cut ties with Nagelsmann, even though he helped lead the team to the Champions League quarter-finals. Former Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea manager, Thomas Tuchel, will now be the manager of The Bavarians.

Tuchel has already managed The Reds for one game in the Champions League. The German team went against Manchester City, where they lost 0-3. During the game, tension built up between forwards Sadio Mane and Leroy Sane. The loss took a toll on the team as Mane and Sane had an altercation in the locker room after the game, where Mane supposedly hit Sane, resulting in a busted lip.

Many soccer fans throughout the world were shocked by the sacking of Naglesmann.

“The surprise firing of Naglesmann really shocked me because he was doing a great job as Bayern manager in the Champions League, even though they did drop points in the league and weren’t dominating like usual,” junior Mark Yonan said. “They were performing really well and the issues shouldn’t have been blamed on Nagelsmann, as the squad didn’t mix well together due to some personalities as seen while Tuchel has taken over the club where we’ve seen Mane fight with Sane after the Manchester City game where Bayern lost. I think that Bayern should’ve waited longer before sacking Naglesmann, rather than right now in the middle of the season.”

Chelsea isn’t the only team in the Premier League who’ve changed managers mid-season. Tottenham Hotspur has recently mutually parted ways with Italian manager Antonio Conte after only 16 months of managing the team.

On March 18, the Hotspurs went against Southampton, which ended in a 3-3 draw. This caused the Italian manager to have an outburst to the media that resulted in Conte calling the Hotspur players “selfish”. He also talked about the absence of responsibility in the players, as well as their selfishness.

The coach explained that he was angered with the team’s performance due to them being up 3-1 during the last 15 minutes of the game and later losing the lead. Southampton then made a comeback to tie the game by scoring in the 77’ minute, then scoring a crucial penalty in the 93’ minute to cause Tottenham to drop points.

Tottenham Hotspur has announced that assistant manager, Cristian Stellini, will now be stepping up as the head manager for the team until the end of the season.

Bayern Munich is in a tight spot as the Champions League progresses. With Nagelsmann having a big impact with The Reds, they may be in trouble as they face Man City once again today. We can only hope for Chelsea to get back up from this drastic season of theirs. Hopefully Heung-Min Son and the Spurs can pick themselves up from this situation as they are still fifth in the Premier League, but only time will tell.
