The boys tennis season started on February 27th and had its first match Monday, April 2nd against Lake Forest Academy ending with a score of 5 Lake forest Academy – 2 Niles North. However, the Vikings came back strong the next day in their game against Notre Dame winning 6 – 1. So far this season they have lost three games and won three games.
Two players to keep an eye out for are junior Dave Bacalla and senior Eric Rosen. Bacalla is the top player at Niles North and one of the top twenty players in the state. He has qualified for the state tournaments the last two years. “It feels great to be considered one of the top twenty players in state, but it [does] come with some expectations to live up to. Hopefully I can live up to those expectations,” Bacalla said. He’s been playing tennis for 12 years.
Rosen is also one of the top players, and was an all conference player two years ago and is expected to have a great year.
Other varsity team members include seniors Jeremy Moy, Xavier Ghani, and Dan Chung and juniors Ian Crane, Florin Ghinet, Will Braubach, Farhan Noormohamed, Bartek Krupa, and Matt Pietz.
The tennis team has upcoming matches on Monday April 16th against St. Patricks, Tuesday April 17th against Maine South, and Thursday April 19th against Maine East.
According to Coach Rich Jaffe, this is going to be a successful year, so come out and support the Niles North boys tennis team.
