On September 22, One Direction announced the release of their new album, Made In The A.M. via social media. This will be the band’s fifth album, and their first album since former member Zayn Malik left.

“I’m very excited for the new album,” Sobia Mujtaba, senior said. “I didn’t pre-order the album yet though. I want to wait until it’s released.”

One Direction has been anticipating the new album for a while. They mentioned recording it multiple times while during the North American part of their On The Road Again tour. In fact, they recorded the whole album in Chicago.

On July 31, the British boy band released “Drag Me Down”, the first single from the album. The release of the new single was a very big deal for One Direction fans for multiple reasons. The band released the single out of nowhere, which surprised the fans. Because it’s not on the radio as often as other songs, it’s a nice surprise when radio stations play it.  The boys performed “Drag Me Down” live for the first time at their show in Indianapolis. That song replace another song that was on the original setlist. Even without promoting the song before it was released, “Drag Me Down” topped iTunes charts in both the United States and the United Kingdom. “Drag Me Down” set the record as the fastest single to reach #1 on iTunes.

On September 22, when One Direction announced the new album, they also released their new song “Infinity”. Social media was buzzing about the new single. “Infinity” received positive positive feedback from the fans, as well as “Drag Me Down”. The band performed an acoustic version of “Infinity” at their first London show. They performed it because of technical difficulties and they couldn’t think of anything else to sing. It wasn’t, however, permanently added to the set list for the tour. If/when you pre-order the album, you get “Infinity” as well. But that’s only valid for iTunes users.

“They’re both amazing songs,” Nadine Halwel, senior, said. “But it’s definitely a different vibe without Zayn.”

Halwel, as well as many other fans are very excited about the new album. “I’m very excited. I already pre-ordered the album,” Halwel said. “I’m just hoping this isn’t their last album together.”
