Tuesday May 5 the Girls Soccer team played Highland Park at home for senior night. For many of the players it was be their last home game of their high school career.
This past Saturday they played Niles West at Toyota Park for the crosstown classic. Last year Niles West brought home the trophy. This year, however, the game ended in a 2-2 tie. Niles West still got to take the trophy home, because they were the previous owners of it. The goals for Niles West were scored by Nichole Lopatin, while the Niles North goals were scored by Alyssa Brand.
There are seven seniors on the soccer team, they are Alyssa Brand, Demetra Govis, Courtney Ebeling, Madeline Valente, Myah Aharoni, Lucia Valenzuela, and Kristen Sadorra. Five of them are four year varsity players. Captain, Alyssa Brand will be continuing her soccer career at Drake University next year. These seniors have worked really hard since their freshman the be where they are now. Their team is now 8-3-4.
The game started out pretty evenly matched, with neither goalie allowing and shots past them. After a scoreless first half, and a few close shots, Brand makes a breakthrough by faking out the goalie and shooting into the open net. Vikings are up 1-0 with 8 minutes left in the game. Next possession Brand has the ball again and takes a shot. Teresa Knudson taps it in. 2-0 Vikings. They have now scored twice in just over a minute. Those were the only two goals of the game.
Congrats to the girls soccer team on their win over highland park on senior night.
