The Niles North girls soccer team has gotten off to a great start for the 2014 season. The team is 4-2-1 (four wins, two losses, and one tie) going into tonight’s game against rival Niles West.
Coach Paul Elkins is very proud of his team’s success thus far, saying, “From last season to this season, our key players have grown as soccer players, and as leaders. We also have an unselfish group of girls that are willing to work hard and sacrifice for the team. We also have some new faces that have stepped up and contributed for us early this season.”
The team has enjoyed victories against Taft High School, St. Ignatius High School, Waukegan High School, and Northside Prep High School. They tied Wauconda High School and lost to Glenbrook South High School and Evanston Township High School.
Some standout players who are underclassmen include junior captain Alyssa Brand, sophomore Stephanie Millan, and sophomore goalkeeper Nina Yonan.
Senior captain Sara Beladi said, “I think we have a good season ahead of us. We have a good balance of young and experienced players, and have good energy. We’re working really hard to play more cohesively and it shows when we get on that field.”
