Thursday December 19th was a night of pure talent. What kind of talent you say? Art!
At around 6:30, 0the annual art gallery from first semester art students began; family, friends, students and art aficionados showed up at Niles North to see what some of our very talented artists have created. The main lobby, the art hallway and IRC hallways were lined up with all the artwork that had been created so far this year. Sizes of works varied from small business like cards in the IRC hallway all the way up to the almost life sized drawings hanging in the front lobby. The amount of hard work and dedication that it took to make some of these fabulous pieces of art is amazing. Some of the more detailed drawings and paintings took several weeks if not months to create and needless to say that they were inspiring.
The event hosted a raffle as well. All of the prizes were art related such as sketch books, colored pencils, nice pens, and brushes, etc. After the raffle, each of the 3 art teachers handed out awards for various things that many of their students had done so far in the year. Some of these awards included speeches given by the recipient to where they would say some words on what art means for them and how it has affected them or changed them as a person.
Some the the awards were given to the folowing:
Most Prolific Artist – senior Anna Poloz
Outstanding Artist – juniors Inga Mazur and Joseph Isip, and senior Hannah Bowes
Artistic Excellence Award – freshmen Cindy Liang and Cassie Corbes
Those are just a few of the some 40 awards given out that night to honor those who had done well in class or had shown that they had what it takes to be a truly great artist. Overall, it was a great night with lots of creative talent being shown off. If you didn’t get a chance to go this year, it is highly recommended that you go next year to see what some of your fellow vikings can create.
Happy Holidays!
