Boys NNXC crossed the final finish line of the season Saturday at the CSL Conference Championship meet. The boys gave it their all as usual, taking second place overall.
“I always say to trust your fitness, trust your race plan, and trust yourself. We executed a good race plan, we showed a lot of team comradery there, from top to bottom everyone running in the freshman race to the varsity race ran really great times,” said head coach Dave Shafron.
“I know some guys didn’t run as well as they wanted to, but many other guys ran very well and even made personal records We had a few all conference athletes, too, which was awesome,” senior captain Matthew Groner said.
Out of a total of 42 runners in the varsity three mile race, three Niles North athletes qualified in the top 14, making all conference. Junior Dhruvil Patel stole second with a time of 15:34:59, senior Benjamin Popernik followed close behind, taking fifth place with a time of 15:57:88. Junior Nebil Mohamad finished 12th with a time of 16:18:92.
“It was worth all the practices and many miles. I would have never been able to get there without my good friends, teammates, and coaches,” Benjamin Popernik said.
The boys definitely gave it their all as usual, bringing a powerful and turbulent season to an end. “It was tough at first with the passing of coach, but overall we grew together as a team and showed that we had the potential to be a tough competitor in the CSL North,” Popernik added.
Congratulations on a successful season boys!
