With a record of 10-3, our Niles North junior varsity Girls Tennis team continues to be a force to be reckoned with.
The junior varsity team also competed in the Niles West Quad on Sept. 14 and the Moline Invitational on Sept. 21. The Vikings dominated the competition as usual, placing 1st in both matches.
The success of the junior varsity girls is very promising for the Niles North girls tennis program in the years to come.
“It’s hard to predict exactly, since many of the best schools in the area (including our own varsity team) have freshmen that immediately play on the varsity team,”junior varsity coach Andrew Klamm says. “If they keep improving the way they have in only one year though, it means that we are narrowing the gap between us and the top three teams in the conference, which hasn’t been done in a long time and is a huge accomplishment. It hopefully also means that we get momentum going with younger players and they come into Niles North excited to be a part of a great team.”
But there must be a secret to all this success for such a young group. Sophomore Samantha Weil lets us in on the team’s approach.
“We’ve become much closer as a team and have a strong bond with the coaches. It’s a very supportive environment. Off season lessons and our drive to win has helped us in all our matches so far,” Weil says.
Come support your tennis team on Sept. 28, in the Evanston Quad. The varsity quad will be at Niles West, while the junior varsity team will compete at home.
Go Vikings!
