The Niles North cheer squad kicked off the new year with a first place trophy from the Central Suburban League conference on Wed. Jan. 9. Their performance, full of high flying stunts and impressive tumbling earned them a total score of 88 out of 100.
“We’ve been working really hard all season long,” Varsity head coach Aleka Landon said.
The Vikings rightfully claimed the trophy from Maine South High School, a fierce competitor in the CSL who had consistently won first place in previous years. The victory brought tears to members of the NN squad after the results were announced, realizing that their hard work and determination had finally brought them to the top.
“Our next goal is to get an even better routine than what we’ve performed today so that we can make it to state and show everybody what we got there,” Landon added.
Congratulations to the team for another outstanding performance. Come support the cheerleaders at their next competition Saturday, Jan. 12 at Grayslake North High School.
