It’s the time of the year we’ve all been waiting for, the one and only Auroris Dance Company’s annual performance. Every year, dancers collectively choose the name of the show through a voting process. This year, the show was given the name “Virtue,” meaning morally good behavior or character, which Auroris will be sure to display throughout their performance.
Performances of “Virtue” will run from Jan. 22-24, beginning with a free community performance on Thursday, January 22, at 10:00 a.m., giving the public an opportunity to experience the show before the main run. The production continues with evening shows on Friday and Saturday at 7:00 p.m., offering multiple opportunities for audiences to attend.
“People should come to the show because it shows all of our hard work over the past few months all while balancing school life as well,” junior Gracie Revilla said.
In preparation for the performance, dancers spent months rehearsing and collaborating on different choreographs. Choreographers begin creating pieces as early as the summer in order to prepare for auditions, giving factors a preview of the style and direction of the show. Once auditions conclude, the company typically begins learning and refining choreography around the beginning of September, marking the start of months of rehearsals leading up to the final performances.
“The thing I like about choreographing is being able to execute my ideas into movement and seeing it come to life,” Revilla said.
As the final performance approaches, many dancers reflect on what being a part of Auroris Dance Company has meant to them. For even first-year performers, it has shaped their confidence and belonging within the group.
“Being part of the Auroris Dance Company has been one of the most meaningful experiences for me,” junior Melva Sabah said. “Every performance is filled with energy, passion, and the support we give one another, and we’re ready to end it with our amazing final performance.
With months of dedication, creativity, and collaboration, “Virtue” promises to be a memorable performance. Audiences will witness the effort dancers have put into making the show unforgettable. It’s not too late to buy tickets and experience the Auroris Dance Company’s performance.
